Leadership

Kyle Gorden, Chief Operations Officer

Kyle began his journey at Federal Companies in 1993 as a temp worker doing data entry for Warehouse Operations. After a few months, he was hired full-time in that department as a Shipping/Receiving Clerk. In the preceding years, he worked in Household Goods Dispatch, becoming the Director of Transportation, where he handled all transportation and safety functions. He then transitioned to Vice President, Transportation, focusing on strategic operational items across all business units. In 2024, he became Chief Operations Officer.

As a long-time believer in putting people first, Kyle cites Federal’s dedication to Servant Leadership, which is the philosophy where leaders prioritize the needs of others, as the driving force behind the company’s success and growth. “If you’re not willing to put others before you, you’ll never understand that people count on you to help them realize their expectations,” says Kyle. “Be focused on customers and make decisions that are fair to them and fair to you. We have great people who believe in doing good for others with a service mindset that keeps them focused on others so they can exceed their expectations.”

Federal has long held a vision to grow outside its current footprint, but starting out with a horse and buggy in 1913 is not the same as it is with a tractor and trailer and all the technology available today. Federal’s strength over the years has been through expanding its diverse lines of business and being able to handle the ebbs and flows of the markets. “I like to say our business travels well,” mentions Kyle. “Through a willingness to learn and grow and diversify, we’ve made it through 110 years. And that must continue to be the strategy for us to move into the next 50 years and beyond.”

Joe Wolford, Chief Financial Officer

Joe started his career as a CPA and began working for Federal Companies in 2009 as an Audit Manager while on contract from an outside accounting firm. In 2013, the previous Federal CFO and the owner of the Federal reached out to Joe because the current Controller was getting ready to retire. The timing couldn’t have been more perfect, as Joe was looking to leave public accounting. In the fall of that year, he officially joined the company.

With a multitude of moving, warehousing, and logistics companies in the world, Joe believes that the main reason Federal rises above all others is because of people. And that is because of the dedicated and passionate staff who work here, Federal has been able to grow and evolve to meet customer needs for over 110 years.

“One of my favorite things about working here is helping our employees and customers succeed,” says Joe. “Personally, there are many challenges and thus learning opportunities daily. I strive to evolve our product offerings to meet our customers’ needs and grow our current product offerings into new and different geographic markets. I tell new people I meet that I’m proud to work for a place that helps people, whether it’s moving across the street or across the world, and that we’re also a place that’s here to help companies get their products to their customers in a timely and safe manner.”
